Green economist running for city council and county council

I have always been interested in how society and the economy function, which led me to study economics and get involved in politics. I believe that individual freedom, equality, democracy, and human rights are the foundations of a successful society, and that a market economy is an excellent tool for using scarce resources efficiently. After growing up in Espoo and studying economics in Turku, I returned in 2019 to work in Parliament as an assistant for MP Atte Harjanne and later as an economist in a labor market organization. Since the last municipal elections, I have served as a deputy member of Espoo’s city board and a member of the facilities and housing committee, gaining valuable insights into how the city operates.

Key issues in municipal elections

A Pleasant and Thriving City

The importance of vibrant cities for Finland’s future cannot be overstated. If growth continues at the expected pace, Espoo will surpass 400,000 residents by 2039.

It is now the responsibility of the decision-makers to ensure that this growth happens in a way that makes Espoo an even more pleasant, functional, and sustainable city.

Sufficient zoning and housing construction must be ensured to keep housing prices reasonable.

A Strong Foundation for Knowledge

Basic education and early childhood education are the largest individual expenditure items in Espoo’s budget. Espoo must continue to be a city that prioritizes education and learning—I am not willing to cut funding in these areas.

A strong foundation for knowledge is built at the municipal level. Education is an investment that pays off both for individuals and for society as a whole.

Sufficient resources must be ensured for education and early childhood education from daycare to upper secondary level.

Making Sustainable Choices Easier

Municipalities are responsible for a significant share of Finland’s emissions. Espoo must take the lead in combating climate change and biodiversity loss. This must be a key consideration in all decision-making. The urban structure should be developed in a way that makes public transport, walking, and cycling more attractive options for more people. Additionally, we must ensure the sustainability of Espoo’s energy system and public procurement.

In addition, the climate and environmental impacts of decisions must be considered in all decision-making.

Key issues in county elections

Prevention as the Top Priority

Investing in preventive services is both economically and humanely wise. Early support, efficient primary healthcare, and accessible mental health services reduce the need for heavier and more expensive care.

Smart Economic Balancing

The well-being service county's finances must be placed on a sustainable foundation without excessively compromising service levels. When making difficult cuts, it is crucial to ensure that the most vulnerable people do not face disproportionate reductions in services.

Ensuring Sufficient Staffing

A well-functioning and adequately staffed workforce is essential for quality services. Working conditions must be improved, competitive salaries ensured, and well-being supported so that professionals can stay in the field and serve residents in the best possible way.
